As a system of local self governance in rural areas, a strong panchayati raj system is imperative. But despite the passage of almost 15 years since the new panchayati raj system came into being, there is little awareness about the system and hence the panchayats are not functioning in a way they should have been functioning.

Role of women is critical in the panchayati raj system as they hold over one-third of all the positions in panchayats. For such women panchayat representatives, camps are being organised for making them aware of various provisions of the panchayati raj system.
